House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) held her weekly news conference after Attorney General William Barr skipped a House committee hearing.

Barr testified before the Senate Judiciary for about five hours on Wednesday, but after Nadler attempted to change the terms of the testimony, including giving time to congressional legal staff to interrogate the attorney general, Barr canceled the scheduled Thursday appearance before the House. Mueller was reportedly frustrated with Barr's initial summary of the Russian Federation report.

Barr, speaking before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week, said he had a 15-minute phone call with Mueller after the special counsel sent the letter. This threatens to undermine a central goal for which the department appointed the special counsel: "to assure full public confidence in the outcome of the investigations".

In a letter to the DC and Virginia bars, Lieu and Rice charge that, in light of Mueller's March 27 letter to the attorney general, Barr "at best misled Congress and at worst perjured himself" when he testified in mid-April - prior to the release of the Mueller report - that he did not know what was behind reports that members of Mueller's team were frustrated.
