The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) says that while the avalanche got close to I-70, there was not enough snow on the road to impact travel.

Video from another motorist shows the moment the second avalanche buried parts of the interstate. Crews cleaned "about 3-4 feet [of snow] that ran over the highway", she said. "There was also tree debris on the road".

DOT works to prevent avalanches from damaging roads and injuring people, including proactively setting off slides so snow does not build up to unsafe levels.

"An Avalanche Warning is in effect for most of the Northern and Central Mountains of Colorado" on Monday, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
