The sole victor of the $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot from October 2018 has come forward and submitted a claim for the prize, lottery officials announced.
The winner's decision to come forward comes months after the October 23 drawing produced the winning numbers 5, 28, 62, 65 and 70.
"The victor even allowed a fellow customer to make a Mega Millions lottery ticket purchase in front of the victor while in line at the store", the organisation said.
The sole victor, who wishes to remain anonymous, submitted a claim for the prize today, according to SC lottery officials. It is the largest jackpot payout to a single victor in U.
The victor has retained the representation of NY law firm Rivkin Radler.

Excitement and intrigue had spread across the state after it was revealed in October the winning ticket of the more than $1.5 billion jackpot was bought at the KC Mart convenience store in the small town of Simpsonville. That jackpot also had some mystery as the California winners didn't come forward until about six months later.
The winning ticket was announced in October but has remained unclaimed until now.
For months, SC residents had speculated on why the victor had not stepped forward. "We respect the winner's decision to remain anonymous, and we will honour the winner's wishes". According to a lottery commission statement, the person submitting the claim has chosen to remain anonymous.
There was a 180 day limit on claiming the prize, so the victor was still well within the time limit when they came forward.
