Instead, Justice John McMahon sentenced McArthur, 67, to a mandatory life sentence but with concurrent, not consecutive, periods of parole ineligibility of 25 years.

January 29, 2019 - McArthur pleads guilty to all eight charges of first-degree murder.

Triple killer Dellen Millard must wait 75 years to seek parole - he'll be 102.

"We should all remember the victims today: Majeed Kayhan, Dean Lisowick, Soroush Mahmudi, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi, Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, Andrew Kinsman and Selim Esen".

The Kanagaratnams were among the dozens of friends and family who sat silently in court Friday as McMahon read from his sentencing report.

Toronto police have faced criticism over the length of time it took them to confirm that a serial killer was stalking the Gay Village and to arrest McArthur.

Body parts of seven victims were found hidden inside large planters that McArthur stored at a client's home in midtown Toronto.

Talks between the player and the club have stalled amid speculation surrounding a potential summer bid from the Spanish giants. I just found out about that, actually. "That must have been a hard decision for whoever made it".

McArthur and his eight victims all had ties to Toronto's gay village neighbourhood.

Many in the LGBTQ community say it's a slap in the face, a failure to send a clear signal that their lives matter.

McArthur stood impassively in a red plaid shirt and grey jumper while the sentence was handed down on Friday.

"The ability to decapitate and dismember his victims, and to do it repeatedly, is pure evil", McMahon said.

Similarly, the Toronto Star's editorial board questioned the alleged inaction from the police in an op-ed. Meaghan Gray, a spokeswoman for Toronto Police, had said that over the years law enforcement had launched two investigations, Project Houston and Project Prism, "to do everything possible to locate the missing men".

"Although Mr. McArthur has taken responsibility by pleading guilty, there has been no evidence I can see of remorse", said Justice John McMahon. David Dickinson said, "It has spared the community and those who knew the victims a lengthy trial".

The court document said police uncovered a duffle bag containing duct tape, a surgical glove, rope, zip ties, a bungee cord, and syringes - evidence pointing to some of the victims being tied up, confined and sexually assaulted prior to their deaths. Most victims were immigrants and of South Asian or Middle Eastern descent.

They also fear how this situation might affect the Duchess , pregnant with the Royal couple's first child, and the baby. It was raining and muddy outside, so the dogs got all dirty, and she's wiping them off with towels.

"Hopefully, one thing that comes out of this is better lines of communication between the police and marginalised communities across the city", he added.

"This is a crime of stark horror", prosecutor Michael Cantlon said in a statement. "Although there can be no closure from a crime of this magnitude, we hope that these eight convictions for first degree murder will assist our community in beginning a new chapter of healing".

Authorities also located a calendar belonging to Kinsman which had the entry "Bruce" on the day in June 2017 that he went missing.

Members of Toronto's gay community claim their concerns that a serial killer was targetting them were not treated seriously by police.

Bezan says he wants to ease the impact on victims' families when serious offenders, who often do not get paroled, apply anyway and get the hearings they're entitled to when they do.

Jooyoung Lee, a sociologist and an expert on serial homicide cases, said the fact that McArthur's victims belonged to marginalised groups may have helped him evade police for years.
