Former US president George HW Bush dies at age 94

- The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station captures a full and fascinating life.

Tributes quickly poured in for the 41st USA president, a decorated war pilot and onetime Central Intelligence Agency chief who also saw his son George follow in his footsteps to the Oval Office.

John Major, British Prime Minister from 1990-1997 said Bush "saw America's obligation to the world and honored it". On one mission over the Pacific as a torpedo bomber pilot he was shot down by Japanese antiaircraft fire and was rescued from the water by a U. Bush while he was away. In January 1945 he married Barbara Pierce.

Despite unprecedented popularity from this military and diplomatic triumph, Bush was unable to withstand discontent at home from a faltering economy, rising violence in inner cities, and continued high deficit spending.

He died on Friday at the age of 94, his family said.
