North Ogden city mayor Major Brent Taylor was deployed to Afghanistan with the Utah National Guard at the beginning of this year.

'The strong turnout, despite the attacks and challenges, was a success for the long-suffering people of Afghanistan and for the cause of human freedom, ' he wrote last week. "What can we do to help our fellow man?" "His service to his community is going to be remembered forever".

"He approached everything and everyone with the idea that he would leave them better than he found them", said Jonathon Call, a North Ogden resident now deployed to Kuwait with the Utah National Guard.

The Facebook posts, which showed photos of Taylor while deployed, were an example of the way in which he kept people connected, residents said. The wounded servicemember is undergoing medical treatment and is in stable condition, authorities said.

Red Dead Redemption 2 makes record-breaking $750 million in three days
The game had more than $ 725 million of retail sales worldwide during its first three days, blowing past analysts' expectations. The publisher no doubt has high aspirations for Red Dead Online , but as an online experience it's still an unproven entity.

Taylor was supposed to return home and resume his post as mayor in January.

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah and the state's lieutenant governor, Spencer Cox, confirmed Taylor's death.

"My heart breaks for the loss and sacrifice of our soldier, particularly for the family", said Maj. In Facebook postings during this current deployment, Taylor lamented that he had to watch his youngest daughter take her first steps via Skype, and that he missed his 15th anniversary with his wife. Earlier this year, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told USA troops in Afghanistan that the Taliban "cannot wait us out", and that they "will ultimately have to settle their differences with the Afghan government at the negotiating table".

His last Facebook post, on October 28, highlighted a successful election in Afghanistan.

A few seconds into the video, a woman is hitting the bus driver on his head with a phone. The driver then took his right arm off the steering wheel as he tried to defend himself.

"As the U.S. gets ready to vote in our own election next week, I hope everyone back home exercises their precious right to vote", Taylor wrote.

Taylor regularly posted on a Facebook page he had created for residents to communicate with him following his election a year ago, residents said. "We feel blessed to have had him as our mayor".

The flags at North Ogden City Hall "are at half-staff and the City Council is meeting (Monday) night to discuss additional options for ways to honor Mayor Taylor", Call said in an email.

The local police chief was killed in that attack, which was later claimed by the Taliban. "It's bitter", Burton said.
