Special counsel Robert Mueller filed a complaint Monday alleging that former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort breached his plea deal by lying during his interviews with prosecutors.

As prosecutors accused Manafort of lying, George Papadopoulos - the former Trump campaign aide whose Russian Federation contacts set off the collusion investigation - entered a minimum security unit to start serving out his two-week jail sentence at the Oxford, Wisconsin federal prison.

Mr Manafort's attorneys said in the same filing that Mr Manafort had met with the Government on several occasions and provided information "in an effort to live up to his cooperation obligations".

Manafort, 69, worked for the Trump presidential campaign for five months in 2016 and was in charge when Mr Trump clinched the Republican party nomination.

Deadlocked charges from the previous trial were to be dismissed if there was "successful co-operation" with the special counsel.

Black Friday: Amazon Workers Embark On Strike
Amazon has invested over 27 billion euros [$30.6 billion] and created over 75,000 permanent jobs across Europe since 2010. An early statement from British union GMB said hundreds were expected to strike at five locations across the U.K.

But federal prosecutors on Monday said he violated the pact and asked a judge to sentence him.

Mueller continued on to recommend that Manafort be sentenced for the crimes that he admitted to in the plea deal.

A month later he pleaded guilty to two other criminal charges in a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Veteran reporter Carl Bernstein said that while the news was about Manafort, that all roads lead to Trump.

After signing the plea agreement, Manafort committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Counsel's Office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement.

It was symbolic in nature, as the International Olympic Committee had ruled out a name change, which would be opposed by China. But some voters say worsening relations with Beijing have harmed business, while others believe she has been too conciliatory.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is probing Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign, said in the filing that Mr Manafort lied to investigators in a series of interviews after signing a plea agreement. The cases that Mueller's team brought against Manafort largely focused on his Ukrainian political consulting work, his U.S. lobbying over the last decade and the financial management of his business proceeds.

As part of the plea deal, Manafort agreed to provide information on a "broad" array of topics in the hopes of getting a lighter sentence in his August conviction in Virginia on bank and tax fraud.

As part of his plea agreement, Manafort pledged to "co-operate fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly" with the government "in any and all matters" prosecutors deemed necessary.

The filing came after Manafort talked in detail to prosecutors before his plea, and despite numerous visits by him and his lawyers to prosecutors' offices.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case in February.
