The first season of Discovery had a lot riding on its shoulders, from bringing back the Star Trek franchise to television and winning over old fans to serving as the flagship show for the CBS All Access streaming service (disclosure: CBS is CNET's parent company). Note that there are spoilers below.

Star Trek: Discovery fired original showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg and replaced them with Akiva Goldsman, which has led to questions about how Season 2 will unfold. Each short will be an opportunity for deeper storytelling and exploration of key characters and themes which fit into STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the expanding "Star Trek" universe. The miniseries episodes, running around 10-15 minutes long will initially feature Rainn Wilson's Harry Mudd (Wilson will direct and feature), Aldis Hodge as a man named Craft who finds himself the only human aboard an otherwise deserted ship.
